Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and I finally got around to it. I decided to try and remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. I mean, who wouldn’t want one of these beauties, right? But the price tag? Forget about it! So, I thought, why not try to make my own version?
I started by collecting all the pictures and information I could find online. I spent hours just looking at pictures of this watch from every possible angle. I wanted to get every detail just right, you know?
Next, I started gathering the materials. I didn’t want to go all out with crazy expensive stuff since this was my first try. I found some decent-looking watch parts online, like the case, the hands, and the movement. Nothing too fancy, but good enough to work with.
- I ordered a rose gold-colored case that looked pretty close to the original.
- Then I got some simple, elegant-looking hands that matched the style.
- For the movement, I picked a basic, reliable one that wouldn’t break the bank.
Once everything arrived, I laid it all out on my workbench. It was kind of exciting, seeing all these separate parts ready to be put together. I started with the movement, carefully placing it inside the case. That was a bit tricky, I gotta admit. I had to be really careful not to damage anything.
Then came the dial. I found a white one that looked pretty close to the original. I carefully attached it to the movement, making sure it was perfectly centered. Next up were the hands. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. Those things are tiny! I used tweezers and a magnifying glass to carefully place them on the movement. It took a few tries, but I finally got them on there.
After that, I put the crystal on and secured the case back. I took a step back to look at my work. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely resembled the Calatrava 6119R-001. I was pretty stoked, to be honest.
Finally, I attached a leather strap that I thought looked nice with the rose gold color. And there it was, my very own homemade version of the Patek Philippe Calatrava. It’s not the real deal, of course, but it’s something I made with my own two hands, and that’s pretty cool if you ask me.
The Final Result
It’s not a perfect replica, and I wouldn’t try to pass it off as one. Some details are off, the movement is obviously not the same, and the materials are much cheaper. But you know what? I’m still really proud of how it turned out. I learned a lot during this process, and it was a fun project. It’s a nice feeling to wear something you made yourself. Plus, every time I look at it, I’m reminded of the effort I put into it. And hey, maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the real thing. But until then, I’m happy with my little homemade version.
