Alright, so, I got it in my head that I wanted to remake the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Don’t ask me why, just seemed like a fun challenge. First thing I did was, I spent hours online just staring at pictures of this bag. You know, on those fancy online stores’ websites.
I zoomed in, zoomed out, looked at every angle I could find. I even tried to find videos of people showing it off, just to get a feel for how it looked in real life, how it moved, all that stuff. Then, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I drew out the bag from different angles, trying to get the proportions right. I noted down every detail, like where the stitching was, the size of the logo, the type of hardware.
Next, the material. This bag is made of Saffiano leather, which I learned is this special kind of textured leather. I had to go around hunting for that. Found a couple of local leather suppliers and went to check out their stuff. Felt the leather, tried to see if it had the right texture, the right look. It was harder than I thought it would be, to be honest.
Hardware was another thing. The bag has these specific buckles, zippers, and that iconic triangle logo. I went online, looked at all sorts of wholesale websites, trying to find something similar. This took a while, lots of comparing, lots of dead ends. I finally found some that looked pretty close to the real thing and ordered a bunch of different types, hoping at least one would be perfect.
- Then the real work began: I started cutting the leather. Let me tell you, cutting leather is no joke.
- Had to be super precise, you know? One slip and you’ve messed up the whole piece.
- After cutting, I started assembling. That was a whole other challenge. Stitching leather is tough.
- The stitching on the original bag is so neat, so even. I tried my best to replicate that, but man, it was hard.
- Went through a lot of thread, a lot of needles. My fingers were sore, let me tell you!
Putting the hardware on was tricky too. You gotta get it in the right spot, make sure it’s secure, and make sure it looks good. There were moments where I felt like I was in way over my head, like I’d bitten off more than I could chew, you know?
Finally Done
But I kept at it. Slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. And when I finally finished, I gotta say, I was pretty proud of myself. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. It didn’t look exactly like the Prada bag, but it was close. And it felt good to have made something with my own two hands, you know? It was a lot of work, a lot of frustration, but also a lot of fun. Learned a ton about leather, about bag making, about my own patience! Would I do it again? Maybe. We’ll see.
