Today, I’m diving into remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001, that classic style everyone’s been talking about. I’ve always been a fan of the clean, simple look of the Calatrava, so I figured, why not try to remake one myself?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to gather all my materials. I spent hours looking at pictures of the 6119G-001, studying every detail. It has a pretty simple design but I wanted my remake to look great. You know, kind of like how people say this one is similar to the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227J-001. I found some similar movements online, not the real deal, but something that would work for this project. Then, I ordered a white gold-plated case, ’cause that’s what the 6119G is, right? White gold.
The Real Work Begins
When all the parts arrived, that’s when the fun began. I started by carefully taking apart the movement. It was kind of tricky, there are so many tiny screws and gears, you wouldn’t believe it! I had to use a magnifying glass just to see what I was doing. I cleaned each piece meticulously, making sure everything was spotless.
- First step, take it all apart.
- Second, clean everything like your life depends on it.
- Third, start putting it back together.
Then, I started the reassembly. This was the most challenging part, no doubt. Fitting all those tiny pieces back together, making sure everything aligned perfectly. It took a lot of patience, I’m telling you. I almost gave up a couple of times, but I kept pushing through.
The Case and Dial
While I was working on the movement, I also started prepping the case. I polished the white gold plating to give it that nice, shiny look. I found a dial that looked almost identical to the 6119G’s, with those simple hour markers and the small seconds subdial. I installed it, and man, it was starting to look like a real watch!
Finishing Touches
The last step was putting the movement back into the case and attaching the strap. I found a nice, black leather strap that I thought would match the classic style of the Calatrava. And just like that, it was done. My very own Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001 remake. I even set the time and everything! Feels like I just bought a new watch from one of those fancy online stores, you know?
It’s not perfect, of course. It’s not a real Patek Philippe, but it’s pretty darn close, at least to me. And the best part is, I made it myself. I put my heart and soul into this project, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s a reminder that with a little patience and a lot of elbow grease, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll try to remake something even more complicated, like one of those limited edition watches you see. For now, though, I’m just gonna enjoy wearing my new “Patek Philippe.”
